My father has quick time installed and wants to only run WMP. His problem is that despite using uninstall via the control panel or via the program itself – it states it has gone but there it sits on his desktop. If he clicks a web link that requires quick time it resurrects itself. What annoyed him the other day was that “it” attempted to take control of all of his video clips that day. It is something he did not ask for or want but killing it off is a real problem. Do you have any hints on how to completely remove this quick time player?
Common ways to uninstall quick time
As it is stated on iTunes site, quick time can be removed with its own uninstaller through control panel. And these were what we have tried:
Windows XP users
1. Click the Start button, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
2. Scroll down until you see quick time.
3. Click QuickTime, click the Remove button, and then click “Yes”.
4. Click OK, and close the Add or Remove Programs window.
Windows Vista or Windows 7 users
1. Click the Start button, click Control Panel, and click the Uninstall a Program link grouped under the Programs category. If you are in Classic View, simply click Programs and Features.
2. Scroll down until you see quick time.
3. Click on Uninstall or Remove.
4. Click the Yes button, and then click OK after a while.
5. Close Control Panel.

If the steps can’t take the quick time off your Control Panel or you get an error saying “A newer version of quick time is already installed. This installation cannot proceed while the newer version of quick time is installed.” it means that the currently installed quick time is corrupt or no longer available on your computer. In that regard, you will have to forcibly remove quick time through the hard drive or registry either manually or automatically. However, unless you are a computer expert, you’d better not edit the info of hard drive or registry yourself.
